Clara always made us laugh, she changed her name after the war in Zimbabwe to a more English sounding name, as she felt she would be more employable. Clara always felt that she was, in her words; “posh”. The one day the iron was broken and she came to my Mom and said, ( with her nose in the air) “ Madame, the iron, she is buggered.” This made us smile so much as she had no idea what she was actually saying.
